Compliance Manager - Native Title Trusts

Australian Executor Trustees (AET) is a leading provider of Trustee Services. Within our Fiduciary team, an opportunity has presented for an experienced adviser to join a national team that manages the investments of AET’s fiduciary trust clients that vary from testamentary, personal injury, philanthropic and native title trusts.


The Role

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Native Title Trusts, the Compliance Manager will ensure the compliance of AET’s Native Title portfolio, specifically the Banjima Benefits Management Structure (BMS). The role is responsible for managing the compliance, administration and efficient operation of the Native Title trusts in accordance with trust deeds and associated commercial agreements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain internal compliance procedures and processes to ensure AET’s portfolio of Native Title trusts are managed in accordance with agreed audit requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders (including the trustee’s auditor, external accountants and major resource companies) on meeting compliance obligations.
  • Prepare and attend Native Title meetings (including in regional and remote Western Australia) as required and ensure meeting procedures are adhered to.
  • Preparation and presentation of key financial updates to Native Title trust beneficiaries and committee members at key stakeholder meetings.
  • Manage the Native Title budgeting processes and liaise with external contractors to ensure timely preparation of meeting papers and reports.
  • Identify, address, and where required escalate, critical compliance risks and issues ensuring resolution in accordance with relevant trust governance frameworks.
  • Prepare complex and/or sensitive correspondence and corporate documentation relating to compliance matters.



To Be Successful in This Role You Will Possess:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in managing trusts and/or deceased estates. Experience working in the Trustee industry or similar experience in the financial sector generally dealing with a specialised cross section of stakeholders.
  • Qualifications within the Trustee Services, Financial Services or Accounting Industries is desirable but not essential.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all legislative, accounting, administrative obligations and legal requirements generally in the administration and management of Trust matters.
  • The ability to prioritise, organise and manage work within set timeframes. The ability to interpret and apply legislation and legal documents / agreements, relate and compare data from different sources, identifying issues, securing relevant information and identifying relationships.
  • The ability to develop and manipulate data using MS Office products including Word, Excel and Outlook.
